Turmeric powder is milled from the dried rhizome of Curcuma longa. Its active fraction, the curcuminoids, are used in feed for antioxidant and anti inflammatory effects, for liver support, and in poultry for the yellow pigmentation they contribute.

Curcuminoid content varies widely with origin and with how much of the rhizome is included, so the crude powder and a standardised extract are quite different purchases. Say which you need when you enquire.

Where it is used

  • Liver support in poultry and swine
  • Natural pigmentation in layer and broiler diets
  • Antioxidant programmes
  • Pet food and companion animal supplements

Formulation note

Decide whether you need crude turmeric powder or a standardised curcumin extract. For health effects, compare on curcuminoid content, and for pigmentation, compare colour strength.
