Fermented soybean meal is produced by combined fermentation of premium soybean meal with beneficial microorganisms, namely Bacillus subtilis, lactic acid bacteria and yeast. It is a functional upgrade on conventional soybean meal rather than a substitute for it.

Fermentation degrades the antinutritional factors that limit soybean meal in young animals: trypsin inhibitors, urease and oligosaccharides are broken down thoroughly, which prevents the bloating and scouring that often follow high soy inclusion. At the same time, large soy protein molecules are cleaved into small peptides and free amino acids, raising digestibility and absorption by 20 to 30 percent against untreated meal.

The probiotics and metabolites left after fermentation help regulate gut microbiota, support immune function and reduce reliance on antibiotics. The mild fermented aroma improves palatability and feed intake.

Solid-state fermented material is the more widely traded form, being simpler to produce and moderately priced. It can replace 20 to 50 percent of fish meal or conventional soybean meal across aquaculture, livestock, poultry and pet feed.

Specification

ParameterGuaranteedMeasured
Appearance Light yellow to brownish-yellow powder Conforms
Crude protein 50% minimum 50.5%
Moisture 10% maximum 5.7%
Crude ash 7% maximum 6.2%
Acid-soluble protein, share of crude protein 15% minimum 21.46%
Total acidity 3% minimum 3.71%

Where it is used

  • Piglet weaning and nursery diets, where soy antigens cause post-weaning scours
  • Aquaculture feed, replacing 20 to 50% of fish meal
  • Broiler starter rations
  • Calf starter and pet food formulations

Formulation note

Acid-soluble protein at 21.46% against a 15% standard is the number to check on any competing offer. It is the clearest single indicator of how far fermentation actually went.
