About this ingredient
Oat bran is the fibre rich outer fraction of the oat groat. It carries more protein and more soluble fibre, in the form of beta glucan, than most cereal brans, which is why it turns up in young animal and companion animal diets rather than in bulk ruminant rations.
The soluble fibre that makes it valuable also raises digesta viscosity, which limits inclusion in poultry unless an enzyme is used alongside.
