Bacillus subtilis is a spore forming probiotic. The spore form is what makes it practical in feed: it survives pelleting, storage and the acid of the stomach far better than vegetative probiotic organisms, then germinates in the gut.

It works by competitive exclusion, by producing enzymes that improve nutrient release, and by supporting the gut barrier. Strain matters a great deal here, so ask for the strain designation and the guaranteed colony forming unit count at end of shelf life, not at manufacture.

Where it is used

  • Antibiotic free poultry and swine production
  • Piglet diets around weaning
  • Layer gut health and shell quality programmes
  • Aquaculture, in feed and in pond water

Formulation note

Guaranteed spore count at the end of shelf life is the figure to compare, not the count at manufacture. Because spores tolerate heat well, Bacillus subtilis is one of the few probiotics that can normally be added before pelleting.

Specification on request

We have not published a full specification sheet for this ingredient yet. Send us your tonnage and destination port and we will return the complete specification, a recent certificate of analysis and a delivered price.

Buying Bacillus Subtilis from China

  • Minimum order: one container.
  • Terms: FOB Chinese port or CIF your destination port.

Frequently asked questions

Does Bacillus subtilis survive feed pelleting?

The spore form is much more heat tolerant than vegetative probiotics and normally survives standard pelleting. Ask for the supplier's recovery data at your conditioning temperature.

What does CFU mean on a Bacillus subtilis specification?

CFU means colony forming units, the count of viable spores per gram. Compare products on guaranteed CFU at the end of shelf life.

Why does the strain matter?

Different strains of Bacillus subtilis have different enzyme profiles and research backing. Ask for the strain designation so you can check it against published trials and your market's approved list.

Tell us the product, the tonnage and the port

Send those three things and we come back with a delivered price, a full specification and a recent certificate of analysis. Usually the same working day.
