ADDITIVES · ILLUSTRATION, NOT A LOT PHOTOGRAPH

Aspergillus oryzae is the fermentation organism used in koji production and, in feed, as a source of amylase and protease activity and as a direct fed fungal culture.

In ruminants the dried fermentation extract is used to support fibre digesting bacteria and stabilise rumen function, particularly under heat stress. In monogastrics the interest is chiefly in its enzyme activity.

Where it is used

  • Dairy rations, for rumen function under heat stress
  • Enzyme supply in poultry and swine diets
  • Direct fed microbial programmes
  • Aqua feed

Formulation note

In ruminant rations Aspergillus oryzae fermentation extract is normally used at low, fixed daily doses per head rather than as a percentage of the diet. Confirm whether you are buying a live culture, a dried fermentation extract or an enzyme concentrate, because they are dosed differently.

Frequently asked questions

What is Aspergillus oryzae used for in dairy cattle?

It is used to support fibre digesting rumen bacteria and to help stabilise rumen function, particularly under heat stress and on high concentrate diets.

Is Aspergillus oryzae the same as a yeast culture?

No. Aspergillus oryzae is a fungus, while yeast cultures are based on Saccharomyces cerevisiae. They are sometimes used together, but they are different products with different specifications.

What specification should I request?

Ask for the form of the product, the enzyme activity or fermentation extract content that is guaranteed, moisture, and the carrier used, together with a recent certificate of analysis.

Tell us the product, the tonnage and the port

Send those three things and we come back with a delivered price, a full specification and a recent certificate of analysis. Usually the same working day.
