About this ingredient
Brewer’s yeast powder is recovered from the yeast fermentation stage of beer production, formed as sediment by yeast cells at the bottom of the vessel once the wort has fermented. Its inputs are brewer’s yeast, hops and malt.
Beyond protein it supplies fat, crude fibre, minerals, amino acids and vitamins, which puts it in the additive category as much as the protein category. It is rich in B-complex vitamins, nucleotides, active peptides and immune polysaccharides, along with bacterial protein and functional small peptides that digest and absorb well.
It suits pig, poultry, ruminant and aquaculture feed. It promotes feed attraction, improves palatability in suckling pig and aquaculture diets, and encourages proliferation of beneficial gut bacteria.
It can also be co-fermented with substrates such as soybean cake or corn stalk, which makes the resulting feed easier to digest and raises its nutritional value.

Formulation note
Recommended inclusion is 1 to 3%. At that rate the functional value, meaning the nucleotides, immune polysaccharides and B vitamins, matters more than the protein contribution.
