About this ingredient
Calcium formate delivers both formic acid and calcium in a dry, non corrosive, easy handling form. The acid fraction lowers gastric pH and suppresses coliforms and salmonella; the calcium contributes to mineral supply.
It is used chiefly in piglet diets around weaning, where gastric acid production has not caught up with the switch to solid feed. Compared with liquid formic acid it is far safer for mill staff and equipment.
