About this ingredient

PLANT PROTEIN · ILLUSTRATION, NOT A LOT PHOTOGRAPH

This is a 60 percent grade corn gluten meal. Corn gluten meal is the concentrated protein fraction separated during corn wet milling, and at this grade it is among the densest plant proteins available.

It carries high xanthophyll, which is often the real reason a layer producer buys it, and it is low in lysine relative to its crude protein, so it complements rather than replaces soybean meal. Grade codes differ between mills, so confirm which plant and grade you are being quoted against.

Where it is used

  • Layer diets, for yolk pigmentation
  • Broiler finisher diets
  • Pet food, as a concentrated plant protein
  • Aqua feed

Formulation note

Treat J60 as a mill specific grade. If you switch between suppliers or grades, recheck xanthophyll and colour, because two 60 percent products can pigment differently.

Yes. It is used as a concentrated plant protein in pet food, usually alongside other proteins to balance lysine.

What mycotoxins should be tested?

Aflatoxin B1, zearalenone and vomitoxin (DON) are the usual checks for maize products, reported on the certificate of analysis.
