Glycocyamine, also called guanidinoacetic acid, is the direct precursor of creatine. Supplying it lets the animal build its own creatine, which is central to the energy system driving muscle contraction and growth.

It matters most in diets with little or no animal protein, since plant based rations supply almost no creatine. It also spares arginine and methionine, which are otherwise consumed in creatine synthesis, so it can reduce supplementation of both.

Where it is used

  • Broiler diets, particularly all vegetable formulations
  • Swine finishing, for growth and carcass yield
  • Arginine and methionine sparing
  • Aqua feed

Formulation note

Glycocyamine gives the clearest benefit in all vegetable diets. Your nutritionist can use it to spare some arginine, and the dose should stay within approved limits for your market.

Frequently asked questions

What is glycocyamine?

Glycocyamine, also known as guanidinoacetic acid or GAA, is the natural precursor of creatine, which supports muscle energy and growth.

Why is glycocyamine used in broiler diets?

Plant based diets contain almost no creatine. Glycocyamine lets the bird make its own, supporting growth and breast meat yield.

Can glycocyamine reduce arginine supplementation?

Yes. Creatine synthesis uses arginine, so supplying glycocyamine spares some of it.
