About this ingredient
Sesame meal is the residue from sesame oil extraction. It is notably high in methionine among plant proteins, which makes it useful for balancing rations built on lysine rich but methionine poor sources.
It is high in calcium and in phytate bound phosphorus, so mineral balance needs rechecking when it enters a formulation. Expeller and solvent extracted grades differ in residual oil, which changes both energy contribution and storage life.
